Breakout actor Inde Navarrette stepped onto the Studio 8H stage late Saturday to make her hosting debut on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” headlining a rare live Halloween broadcast.
The 25-year-old performer was accompanied by singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, who returned to the sketch comedy institution for her second stint as musical guest. Abrams previously performed on the program in December 2024 and recently announced a deluxe edition of her album “Daughter from Hell,” according to reporting from the New York Post and Billboard.
A Rare Halloween Broadcast
The Oct. 31 telecast served as the fourth episode of the 52nd season of “Saturday Night Live.” Holiday broadcasts falling directly on Halloween remain exceptionally rare across the program’s five decades on the air. Saturday marked only the fifth time in the show’s 52-season history that an episode aired live on Oct. 31, the New York Post reported. The previous occurrence took place in 2020, when comedian John Mulaney hosted.
The live broadcast aired coast-to-coast at 11:30 p.m. Eastern on NBC, returning to the airwaves after a scheduled two-week hiatus. The sketch program entered the current television season with two new additions to the cast, following an influx of five new performers the prior year, according to the New York Post.
Rapid Rise from Indie Horror to Blockbusters
Navarrette’s booking follows an explosive rise in prominence sparked by her leading role in the low-budget thriller “Obsession.” Produced on an estimated shoestring budget of roughly $1 million, the independent project evolved into a surprise international sensation, ultimately ranking among the top 10 highest-grossing films of the year, TVLine reported.
In the film, Navarrette starred as Nikki, a character subjected to a supernatural conjuring that compels an unnatural fixation with a coworker. Her performance earned broad praise from moviegoers and critics alike. The production’s popularity had already reached Studio 8H earlier this season, when cast member Ashley Padilla imitated signature moments from Navarrette’s character during the Season 52 premiere cold open, TVLine noted.
Navarrette’s Hollywood profile has expanded rapidly since the movie’s premiere. In addition to her hosting debut, she has also been cast in an upcoming “X-Men” feature film, according to Just Jared.
What Comes Next for Season 52
NBC will continue rolling out new episodes throughout the remainder of 2026. Upcoming broadcasts include the return of Mulaney, who is slated to join the ranks of seven-time hosts when he leads an episode in November, the New York Post reported.
Full episodes from the current run are scheduled to stream Sunday mornings on Peacock following their live television broadcasts, while the series prepares to navigate its remaining late-autumn lineup.
