Actress Tovah Feldshuh is pushing back against reports of behind-the-scenes turmoil on the set of the Netflix comedy series “Nobody Wants This,” asserting that strong political disagreements between cast members have not translated into hostility at work.
Responding to online claims regarding backstage friction, the 77-year-old performer addressed the matter directly in a social media post on Friday. The rumors followed public remarks regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict made by her co-star, Adam Brody.
“Tensions are NOT RISING. Profound differences of opinion are,” Feldshuh wrote on Threads. “Please do not conflate the two — And none of it will be brought to the set.” She added that she deeply enjoys working on the show and voiced hope that the program receives a renewal for a fourth season.
Contrasting Views on the Middle East
The friction surfaced publicly after Brody, 46, weighed in on the war in Gaza during a September interview with GQ magazine. The actor, who portrays Rabbi Noah Roklov opposite Kristen Bell on the series, explained that while he had previously kept his perspectives private, he felt compelled to speak out.
“Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine,” Brody told the magazine, adding that he hoped an incoming administration could alter policies that contribute to the ongoing crisis.
Feldshuh, who portrays Brody’s on-screen mother, Bina, took strong issue with his characterization during a subsequent conversation with The New York Post. Calling Brody’s phrasing extreme, she argued that leveling such allegations against Jewish people reverses the roles of victim and perpetrator.
Feldshuh told the newspaper that the survival of Israel remains vital to the democratic world and emphasized that the U.S. and Israel share essential bonds. At the same time, she highlighted her professional commitment to maintaining harmony during production.
“My job, as Bina but also as Tovah, is to love the people on set at my place of work, to be kind,” Feldshuh said to the outlet.
Reactions Across the Production
Other figures associated with the romantic comedy have also weighed in on Brody’s remarks. Erin Foster, who created the show based loosely on her own life and conversion to Judaism, addressed the matter during an appearance on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast.
Foster acknowledged that she disagrees with Brody’s stance, comparing the dynamics on set to family dinner tables where people hold lively discussions and disagree without breaking relationships. She reiterated that the series was designed as a positive tribute to Judaism and noted that colleagues remain entitled to their own views.
The actor’s comments also drew sharp pushback from Rabbi Steve Leder, an adviser during the production’s initial season. In an Instagram video, Leder denounced Brody’s statements, labeling them offensive and calling the actor ignorant, according to media reports.
“Nobody Wants This” released its third season on Oct. 22. While Brody has not issued further public remarks on the matter, Netflix has yet to announce whether the series will return for a fourth season.
