Apple has rolled out new convenience features across its platforms, streamlining device location through the Find My application and syncing personalized viewing profiles across mobile and home devices.
The updates arrive as the tech company also prepares to launch its proprietary artificial intelligence system in China in an upcoming software release scheduled for later this year.
Refined tracking and household sharing
According to Engadget, the tvOS 27.2 update simplifies how users recover misplaced television controllers. Owners of older compatible hardware will now see their remote listed directly within the Find My app. Previously, users had to launch the dedicated TV Remote tool located in the Control Center on their iPhone to track down the peripheral.
Tracking is enhanced further on the recently unveiled Apple TV 4K, which includes a revamped Siri Remote featuring a built-in speaker designed to emit audio cues when searched for, Engadget reported. The updated software is accessible at no cost for the second-generation Apple TV 4K released in 2021 as well as subsequent models.
Apple has also enhanced cross-device synchronization through iOS 27.2 and tvOS 27.2. Mobile users on iPhone and iPad can now manage individual profiles within the Apple TV app, and those profiles automatically synchronize across their home entertainment hardware. The interface introduces fresh avatar characters for the selection screen, aimed at families and shared living spaces. Additionally, the software adds accessibility options with American Sign Language and British Sign Language support for designated titles, alongside an updated monochrome Apple Music icon matching the recent mobile design refresh.
Hardware limitations remain for certain high-end audio capabilities, Engadget reported. Configuring a surround sound setup that pairs two sets of the HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod models requires the newest Apple TV 4K powered by the A19 processor, which debuted earlier this month.
Apple Intelligence heads to China
Looking ahead, Apple confirmed on its Chinese newsroom portal that it will introduce its Apple Intelligence suite to China through the upcoming iOS 27.3 update, The Verge reported via MacRumors. A public test beta is slated to begin Nov. 4, followed by a general consumer deployment in December.
The international release marks a major regulatory milestone after Chinese officials granted approval for the artificial intelligence platform in July. Reuters previously reported in August that Apple created a custom large language model trained specifically to comply with the regulatory standards of the Chinese market.
While the debut will not include the fully overhauled Siri assistant, Chinese consumers will gain access to foundational intelligence capabilities. According to The Verge, these include:
- Automated summaries for incoming device notifications
- Live language translation capabilities
- Writing assistance, including text rewriting and proofreading
- Visual intelligence tools and object removal within photos
Apple has also partnered with Chinese technology giant Alibaba to incorporate the Qwen chatbot into select system workflows, mirroring the integration model Apple deployed with OpenAI’s ChatGPT beginning in 2024.
Beta testing for iOS 27.3 begins next week, while current device owners can install the tvOS 27.2 and iOS 27.2 updates immediately through their system settings menus.
