Paramount+ unveiled the official trailer for the fourth and final season of “Yellowjackets” on Thursday, offering audiences a first look at the aftermath of the stranded soccer team’s rescue from the remote Canadian wilderness.
The 10-episode concluding season is scheduled to debut on Nov. 20 exclusively for subscribers with the Paramount+ Premium Plan, according to Gizmodo and Collider. The new footage confirms that the narrative will finally bridge the gap between the teenage survivors returning to civilization in the 1990s and the haunted lives of their adult counterparts nearly 25 years later.
A complicated homecoming
The Emmy-nominated drama, created and executive produced by showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, traces the descent of a high school girls soccer squad after their plane crashes in the northern woods. For almost two years, the team devolved into rival factions engaged in violence and cannibalism to survive.
The newly released trailer shows the teenagers arriving back in their hometown of Wisayok, New Jersey, Collider and Deadline reported. While the community treats them as celebrated survivors, the young women struggle to adjust to ordinary life while shielding their families and the public from the grim realities of what transpired in the woods. The preview is accompanied by an eerie rendition of Alanis Morissette’s hit song “Ironic,” Deadline reported.
At the same time, the present-day timeline depicts the adult survivors continuing to unravel as the agreements and lies that bound them together for decades begin to fracture, according to Rolling Stone.
Ensemble cast and new faces
The core ensemble reprises their roles for the final run. Returning actors portraying the adult characters include Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, and Hilary Swank, alongside Warren Kole. The younger cast features Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Kevin Alves, Sarah Desjardins, Nia Sondaya, and Jenna Burgess.
The upcoming season will also introduce several notable guest performers, including June Squibb, Molly Ringwald, and Devon Sawa, as well as returning guest Elijah Wood, alongside Sam Braun and Dulé Hill, Rolling Stone reported.
Reaching the conclusion
Although Lyle and Nickerson originally mapped out a five-season trajectory for the drama, the creative team decided last year to bring the series to an end in its fourth season, Rolling Stone reported. In a statement previously shared on social media, the creators explained that the narrative had naturally signaled where it needed to finish.
“We’ve always known there would come a point when the story would tell us it wants to end, and it’s our belief that our job — our responsibility — is to listen,” Lyle and Nickerson said at the time.
The previous three seasons are currently available for streaming on Paramount+. Viewers will learn how the survivors negotiated their cover-up and what ultimate fate awaits the adult characters when the final season begins streaming on Nov. 20.
