North Carolina football head coach Bill Belichick and his partner Jordon Hudson quietly ended their romantic relationship late last year, according to reports Friday from TMZ Sports and People magazine.

Despite the split, the pair continue to work together on business matters and stay close friends, sources with direct knowledge told TMZ. Hudson, 25, has also started seeing other people, according to TMZ, though it remains unknown whether she is currently in a relationship.

The report caught many off guard, including colleagues. Two people inside the Tar Heels football office told USA Today they had no knowledge of any breakup before the news became public.

A relationship under intense public spotlight

Belichick, who is listed as 74 years old by Bleacher Report and 73 by Yahoo Sports, first crossed paths with Hudson on a flight in 2021. The two went public with their relationship in 2024, during a year the six-time Super Bowl champion coach took off from coaching after leaving the New England Patriots.

The nearly five-decade age difference between Belichick and Hudson immediately drew widespread attention and media scrutiny. That spotlight intensified in April 2025 during an appearance on “CBS Sunday Morning” to promote Belichick’s book. Hudson repeatedly interrupted the taping, stepping in when an interviewer asked how the couple met. Belichick subsequently defended her actions, saying she was “simply doing her job to ensure the interview stayed on track,” according to Yahoo Sports, though CBS noted that no topics had been placed off-limits.

Hudson also faced scrutiny over her level of involvement with the Tar Heels football program. In April 2025, The Athletic reported that Hudson appeared professionally involved with the coach despite having no employment contract with the university. People reported she asked North Carolina staff members to filter negative social media remarks about Belichick.

The university clarified in May 2025 that Hudson was not an employee of the school or the athletic department, though officials affirmed she was permitted in football facilities and would continue overseeing Belichick’s personal brand activities. Belichick dismissed speculation about her team role in an interview with The Wall Street Journal published in September, calling suggestions that she was acting like a general manager “ridiculous.”

Public appearances and brand partnerships continue

Even after their reported split late in 2025, Hudson and Belichick maintained a regular public presence together. In May, Hudson shared a photo on social media showing them holding hands at the Kentucky Derby.

She has also attended North Carolina home and away games during the 2026 campaign, including an Oct. 3 game against Notre Dame and an overtime loss against Syracuse at Kenan Stadium on Saturday.

Beyond personal appearances, Hudson has played an active part in Belichick’s commercial interests. She previously signed paperwork as the chief operating officer of TCE Rights Management LLC regarding Belichick’s image rights for a planned North Carolina docu-series with Hulu, a project that was later shelved after the team struggled early in the 2025 season.

North Carolina went 4-8 during Belichick’s debut season in Chapel Hill. The program has posted a 4-3 record through seven games in 2026, highlighted by a 21-17 victory at then-No. 25 Pittsburgh on Oct. 10 and a road win against Duke.

Neither Belichick nor Hudson responded to TMZ regarding the report. The Tar Heels are scheduled to host top-ranked Miami on Saturday night.
