Comedy Central’s “South Park” surprised television viewers Wednesday night by airing an authentic gameplay clip from the long-awaited video game “Grand Theft Auto VI,” depicting protagonist Jason in a chaotic beach brawl involving dog waste.
The brief preview appeared about two-thirds of the way through “Guinea Pig on a Stick,” the fourth episode of Season 29, which has temporarily rebranded the series’ setting as “South America.” In the scene, the main characters visit a local cattle ranch and receive a glimpse of the title’s world-building on a packed Vice Beach.
“Look at that, the graphics are seriously next level. You see the world-building?” an insider character tells the boys, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter reported. “It’s a dog taking a poop. And people can pick up the dog poop. You can throw things at the person with dog poop, and if they choose to fight back, you can pick up the dog poop and actually attack them with the dog poop. That is what’s coming in November.”
Authentic Footage Confirmed in Credits
While viewers initially questioned whether the crude sequence was an authentic studio build or an in-house animation spoof, the episode’s closing credits confirmed the clip’s origin. According to Notebookcheck, the post-show text explicitly stated, “Grand Theft Auto VI footage courtesy of Rockstar Games, Inc.”
The sequence functioned as a technical showcase for the game’s coastal environment, featuring diverse non-playable character models walking across the sand, dynamic footprints, and crowd members reacting to physical altercations with voice dialogue.
Reports differed slightly on the official arrival date of the game, which will be the franchise’s first mainline release since 2013. Deadline reported the title is scheduled for a Nov. 19 rollout, while The Hollywood Reporter stated the release is slated for Nov. 18.
Satirizing Politics and Midterm Elections
Series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone used the immense public excitement surrounding the game’s impending launch as a satirical stand-in for the upcoming Nov. 3 U.S. midterm elections and the country’s polarized atmosphere, entertainment outlets noted.
The game has become a recurring motif throughout the current television season. Notebookcheck reported that previous episodes airing on Sept. 16, Sept. 30, and Oct. 14 also integrated jokes about console progress, power outages, and national anticipation for the release.
Outside of the gaming sequence, Wednesday’s installment focused on a domestic food shortage. After soaring beef prices force South America Elementary to cancel sloppy joes, Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, and Stan’s shrunken father, Randy, attempt to track down local livestock.
The storyline takes aim at elite food fads and commercial patriotism, showing high-paying steakhouse patrons consuming local beef that causes violent gastrointestinal reactions. To resolve the dispute after commercial restaurant chains intervene, the boys convince ranchers to serve butter-injected guinea pigs on skewers as premium patriotic fare instead.
Rockstar Games has not issued a public comment explaining the unusual television debut, leaving fans to see whether more gameplay material will emerge before the title hits shelves next month.
