Alanis Morissette announced Friday that she will release her first full-length holiday album, titled “Good Weather for Immaculate Conception,” on Nov. 6 through Virgin’s Epiphany imprint. Along with the announcement, the singer issued the project’s lead single, a collaboration with Brandi Carlile and Steve Martin on the hymn “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.”
The upcoming 14-track record brings together several seasonal covers Morissette has released in recent years, alongside fresh interpretations of traditional carols and two original songs: “Christmas on the Dancefloor” and “To an Empath at Christmas Time.”
Eclectic collaborations and tracklist
The album features a wide array of guest contributors. Comedian and actor Martin Short appears on the closing selection, “Merry Christmas,” while his frequent stage and screen partner Steve Martin lends his musicianship to “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.” Singer-songwriters Joy Oladokun and Amythyst Kiah join Morissette on “Silent Night” and “Momma Mary,” respectively.
The British choir Trans Voices, recognized as the United Kingdom’s first professional vocal ensemble of transgender and nonbinary performers, also contributes to a rendition of “O Tannenbaum.”
Morissette previously hinted at the seasonal project during a September appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “This record is just so sweet,” she told host Alex Cooper, describing the project as a “labor of Christmas love for me,” Billboard reported.
The singer began rolling out annual festive singles in 2020, starting with John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” according to Billboard. Subsequent seasonal releases included “Little Drummer Boy” in 2022, Wham!’s “Last Christmas” in 2023 and “O Holy Night” in 2024. The new record also features a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “River,” alongside “Ave Maria” and “What Child is This?”
Recent performances and milestones
Music outlets gave conflicting accounts regarding her catalog history leading into the release. Pitchfork reported that her last studio LP was 2020’s “Such Pretty Forks in the Road,” whereas Billboard stated that her most recent full-length effort was the 2022 album “The Storm Before the Calm.”
The holiday announcement comes during an active year for the Canadian artist, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame earlier in 2026. Morissette also sang the Canadian national anthem at the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup, Rolling Stone reported.
In August, Morissette made a surprise appearance alongside pop singer Olivia Rodrigo at Rodrigo’s inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival, joining her onstage to perform a duet of her 1995 hit “Ironic.” Morissette also recently shared the stage at Red Rocks Amphitheatre with Carlile to sing “Uninvited,” following Carlile’s performance of the track at the Newport Folk Festival in July.
“Good Weather for Immaculate Conception” is scheduled for release across digital and physical formats on Nov. 6.
