Samsung has confirmed an initial roster of Galaxy smartphones and tablets scheduled to receive its Android 17-based One UI 9 operating system upgrade, tech news outlets reported Friday.
The deployment schedule was published by Samsung Japan, providing the first formal look at hardware compatibility and timing for the major software update, according to 9to5Google. Although the specified target dates apply strictly to Japanese carrier and retail models, the list provides a clear signal of which devices will gain access across global markets in the coming months.
Expanding Beyond the Latest Flagships
The update marks an important phase in the distribution of One UI 9. Prior to the announcement, the fresh software environment was restricted to Samsung’s latest high-end releases. Digital Trends reported that the system initially arrived on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 following their debut in August 2026, as well as the Galaxy Tab S12 series that launched earlier in October.
According to 9to5Google, One UI 9 also began reaching consumers through the Galaxy S26 lineup during its September rollout before trickling down to select prior-generation hardware. Under the newly released schedule, device support will stretch backward to include equipment released from the Galaxy S23 generation onward, Digital Trends reported.
Rollout Windows and Model Availability
In Japan, the upgrade cycle for the listed phones and tablets is scheduled to take place throughout October and November 2026, 9to5Google reported. A broader international deployment is anticipated to follow shortly thereafter.
Industry analysts and observers noted that the published inventory is not exhaustive. The Japanese roster excluded several notable devices, such as the “Plus” variations of modern Galaxy S flagships, along with various mid-range Galaxy A models and region-specific product editions, according to 9to5Google. Similar variants sold in North America, Europe, and other regions are expected to appear on localized schedules as regional branches finalize testing.
Entry-level Galaxy handsets are anticipated to see software packages arrive somewhat later in the cycle, with installations likely extending through December 2026 and January 2027, 9to5Google reported. Digital Trends noted that many Galaxy owners awaiting the refreshed software can expect upgrades to reach their hardware prior to the conclusion of the year.
Samsung has not yet announced specific calendar dates for carrier-locked or unlocked devices across the United States. Further regional roadmaps are expected to be shared as individual territories commence their local software distributions.
