Apple is rolling out a dedicated App Store label called “Made for iPhone Duo” to help customers identify software tailored for its upcoming foldable smartphone, The Verge reported Thursday. The visual indicator will mark applications and games configured to exploit the hardware’s expanded screen dimensions and dual-display capabilities ahead of its Friday store arrival.

The announcement coincided with Apple spotlighting more than 50 third-party applications that are already updated or scheduled to optimize for the folding device, according to MacRumors. Software creators have redesigned mobile layouts to adjust dynamically when the device is completely unfolded, propped upright on a table, or bent partially like an open book.

Major entertainment and productivity platforms are among the first to adapt to the new format, according to reporting from The Verge and MacRumors. In the Netflix application, users can browse short vertical clips on the exterior cover panel and transition immediately to the larger interior screen when opening the unit. Amazon’s Prime Video includes a seated mode that places playback on the upper half of the folded display while showing cast and production notes on the lower half.

Apple also revealed that Microsoft Word and Outlook will introduce what the company described as a “desktop-class experience” in upcoming updates, MacRumors reported. Word will position formatting toolbars beside an active document, while Outlook will present an inbox pane alongside an opened message. Video conferencing service Zoom will present participants next to shared slides, and Major League Baseball updated its app to span live coverage and statistics across the full width of the interior display. Additional services preparing customized interfaces include Lyft, Slack, United Airlines, and NYT Cooking.

Navigating New Screen Dimensions

While the hardware delivers expanded display real estate, early testing points to software growing pains. Nilay Patel of The Verge observed that certain programs described as optimized, including Instagram, still suffered from software bugs during initial evaluation.

CNET reported that the folding phone features a matte interior panel designed to reduce glare, accompanied by a minimal center crease. The outlet noted that the passport-proportioned aspect ratio across both screens differs from traditional widescreen phone displays, which can introduce black bars when viewing video or require adjustments when typing on the narrower outer screen.

Shoppers evaluating the hardware in retail stores will also find a revised camera system. CNET reported that the phone omits a telephoto lens but includes dual 48-megapixel exterior sensors, a 12-megapixel cover camera, and a display-embedded sensor designed for video conferences. The device lets owners capture selfies using the high-resolution rear lenses by using the outer screen as a live viewfinder.

Retail Launch and Availability

The iPhone Duo is scheduled to arrive in stores Friday with a starting price of $1,999, with Apple offering limited walk-in units on launch day, The Verge reported. Customers who did not place an advance order during the initial reservation window face shipping delays reaching into January, according to CNET.

Along with the new badges, Apple confirmed it will launch curated editorial App Store collections on Friday to guide users toward supported programs, The Verge reported. The company stated that more app updates will arrive across the remainder of the year. MacRumors noted that all standard iPhone applications will operate on the Duo, though their visual presentation will depend on the software developer kit used during creation.
