CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple is preparing to release an updated Apple TV 4K and a second-generation HomePod mini on Oct. 30, following an expected smart-home hardware presentation scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13, according to industry reports.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman reported that the two refreshed entertainment devices will land on store shelves before the end of the month, 9to5Mac reported. A separate display-equipped smart home hub, reportedly dubbed HomeView, is projected to follow later with shipments slipping into mid-November.

Siri artificial intelligence and internal upgrades

The upcoming HomePod mini is expected to receive its first major hardware overhaul in several years. According to Gurman’s reporting cited by 9to5Mac, the compact speaker will shift from its older S5 processor to an S10 chip. While not Apple’s newest processor family, the jump represents a substantial upgrade designed to power local Siri artificial intelligence functions across Apple home hardware for the first time.

Alongside enhanced processing power, the speaker is expected to include Apple’s custom N1 networking silicon, adding Wi-Fi 7 capabilities and integrated Thread and Matter radios. The current HomePod mini relies on Wi-Fi 4. The upgraded speaker will also retain its spherical fabric design while introducing fresh color finishes, including green, pink and blue alongside existing midnight and white options.

The updated Apple TV 4K will similarly support Apple’s expanding artificial intelligence features and integrate directly into the broader home network, syncing playback and voice controls across devices such as the anticipated HomeView hub, 9to5Mac reported.

Inventory drawdowns signal impending launch

Indications of an imminent product release have already surfaced across Apple’s distribution channels. Supply shortages for the existing HomePod mini have escalated internationally, European tech outlet Letem světem Applem reported. In the United States, several colors show delayed shipping windows extending into mid-October, while select shades are unavailable across certain postal codes.

International stock is even more constrained, with online stores in Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Australia and Japan showing waiting periods of up to eight weeks or listing select colors as completely out of stock, according to Letem světem Applem. Historically, prolonged inventory drying across multiple regions reliably precedes the discontinuation or replacement of legacy consumer tech.

Meanwhile, GSMArena reported that Apple recently designated its original 2017 Apple TV 4K as a vintage product, a formal classification applied to hardware that ceased retail sales more than five years ago. That move further emphasizes the company’s focus on transitioning users toward modern streaming hardware capable of running current software.

Pricing and rollout outlook

Whether Apple will adjust retail pricing for the upcoming speaker remains unconfirmed. The HomePod mini rose from $99 to $129 in June amid broader memory price increases across Apple’s lineup, 9to5Mac noted. The Apple Post reported that buyers seeking home audio equipment are largely holding off on purchases until after Tuesday’s showcase, titled “Welcome home,” clarifies Apple’s lineup and long-term software support.

Apple has not publicly confirmed product specifications, official retail pricing or exact shipping dates ahead of the Oct. 13 event.
