Apple has begun advancing estimated delivery dates for select buyers of its new iPhone Duo across the United States and Japan, trimming weeks off backlogs that surfaced immediately following the start of preorders.

The adjustments arrived Monday after an initial surge on Friday, Oct. 16, quickly pushed online shipping windows into late January 2027. Some customers who were initially quoted December arrival dates reported seeing their orders shifted forward into mid-to-late November, MacRumors reported. YouTuber Matt Gonzalez noted his order of a 512-gigabyte Star White unit moved from December to between Nov. 20 and Nov. 30, while discussions on MacRumors forums showed other buyers seeing December estimates shift to mid-November.

Supply Constraints Meet High Demand

The shipping adjustments follow an opening weekend marked by heavy order volumes and constrained inventory. Apple opened worldwide orders for the $1,999 device on Friday, Oct. 16, and delivery estimates slipped to Jan. 25 within the first 30 minutes, MacRumors reported. Korea JoongAng Daily reported that shoppers placing orders more than an hour after the launch were met with delivery dates delayed until Jan. 22, 2027, in most regions.

Following the rush, Apple described the preorder interest as “nothing short of extraordinary” in a statement, CNBC reported. The company added that it was “working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers’ hands as quickly as possible.”

Wall Street analysts noted that extended delivery schedules can signal both eager buyers and tight initial production. Evercore ISI said shipping lead times swiftly stretched to roughly 100 days across tracked configurations, which the firm evaluated as solid early demand while cautioning that new device designs often introduce tighter launch supplies, according to TheFly as reported by Yahoo Finance.

Manufacturing the foldable phone entails significant mechanical complexity. Startup Fortune reported that the hinge mechanism contains more than 100 parts, citing supply chain reporting from Jiemian News that Foxconn saw final-assembly yields near 60 percent heading into late September, well below Apple’s typical 90 percent target.

A New Premium Price Category

The iPhone Duo, which features a 7.6-inch folding inner panel, a 5.4-inch outer cover screen, and an A20 Pro processor, represents Apple’s first entry into the foldable hardware market, 24/7 Wall St. reported. With starting prices set at $1,999 and climbing past $3,000 for top-tier storage options, the device tests customer willingness to adopt ultra-premium smartphones, according to CNBC.

Market analysts see the product as a vehicle to lift average selling prices rather than generate massive unit volume. International Data Corp. research director Nabila Popal told CNBC that the Duo is fast becoming an “aspirational foldable,” predicting that the hardware could elevate revenue even with modest unit counts. IDC expects Apple to deliver around 7 million foldable units in 2026, while Counterpoint Research projects up to 6 million units, citing potential supply bottlenecks.

Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management expressed confidence that delivery timelines point to solid adoption, projecting up to 20 million iPhone Duo units shipped during fiscal 2027, according to Yahoo Finance.

What Comes Next

The iPhone Duo officially arrives in retail stores and to initial customers this Friday, Oct. 23. Apple has not yet stated whether walk-in inventory will be available on launch day for customers who did not secure an early preorder, 24/7 Wall St. reported. Whether manufacturing yields improve fast enough to further compress wait times for remaining backordered customers remains to be seen.
