Sofía Vergara shared a pointed social media message about narcissistic behavior Friday, arriving after excerpts from her former husband Joe Manganiello’s upcoming memoir surfaced with sharp criticisms of their marriage.

Vergara posted a graphic to her Instagram Story that had been published by her 35-year-old son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, Page Six and OK! Magazine reported. The post drew contrasts between supportive partners and “narcissistic” individuals, warning followers that people with those traits often shift blame and resent their partners. Her son wrote that no matter how much someone does for a narcissist, “they’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy,” punctuating the thought with celebratory emojis. Vergara shared the graphic without adding further comment.

The upload followed another repost Vergara made earlier in the week regarding humor and intelligence, which asserted that an inability to laugh at oneself signaled “dealing with an idiot,” according to OK! Magazine.

Memoir details severe health crisis and marital strain

The online posts appeared days ahead of the Oct. 13 release of Manganiello’s memoir, “Bloodlines,” published by Avid Reader Press. In excerpts and reporting cited by People and OK! Magazine, the 49-year-old actor claimed his marriage to Vergara had grown “devoid of any emotionality whatsoever” near its conclusion.

Manganiello wrote that Vergara refused to hug him while he endured a life-threatening autoimmune condition, and alleged she mocked him over a canine companion he adopted while experiencing suicidal thoughts in 2019, according to Page Six. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988.

An excerpt published by The Hollywood Reporter documented Manganiello’s medical emergency in 2016, when he collapsed on a television set and underwent an emergency colectomy. Vergara, acting as his next of kin, authorized the surgery that saved his life by removing his large intestine and fitting him with an ostomy bag. Manganiello recounted struggling with recovery, painkiller dependency, and body image before securing the role of Deathstroke in a planned Batman project with Ben Affleck.

Conflicting narratives surrounding the divorce

Vergara, 54, and Manganiello married in 2015 and had their divorce finalized in early 2024. The former couple has previously offered differing accounts regarding what triggered the breakdown of their relationship.

In a 2024 interview with Men’s Journal, Vergara stated that their split stemmed from Manganiello wanting biological children while she did not wish to become an older parent. Manganiello countered that narrative in his memoir, writing that the couple paused in vitro fertilization efforts because of his unresolved health condition, as he feared dying and leaving Vergara with a dependent conceived through an egg donor.

Spokespeople for Vergara and Manganiello did not immediately return requests for comment, Page Six reported. Manganiello has since become engaged to Caitlin O’Connor, while Vergara continues her television and film career.
