Actor Charlie Cox has finished recording dialogue for an unannounced video game project with publisher Sega, the actor revealed at New York Comic Con on Thursday.
Speaking in an interview with IGN, the British actor disclosed that he completed approximately 40 hours of voice work for the mystery production. The project marks a major return to interactive entertainment for Cox, who recently voiced the character Gustave in the fantasy role-playing game “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.”
Surprise Accent and Studio Confusion
During the interview, Cox explained that the development team was surprised when he first arrived for his recording session using his natural British voice. The London-born actor is widely recognized for playing American attorney and vigilante Matt Murdock in Marvel’s “Daredevil” series, which led the studio to assume he was from the United States.
“I had to do 40 hours or whatever it was, and I showed up for the first day, and I was like, ‘Hi guys, nice to meet you! How are you?’” Cox told IGN. “And all of them went, ‘…oh, he’s English.’ They’d wanted him to be American. But now I’ve got to do 40 hours of lines I’ve not prepared in an accent.”
Cox noted that the project remains in development, adding: “It doesn’t have a name yet. I did a Sega one. It hasn’t come out yet. It was fun to do. It’s hard. It’s a whole different job, man.”
Deeper Move Into Gaming
The 40-hour recording schedule indicates a substantially larger role than Cox undertook for his video game debut. Cox previously estimated that his dialogue sessions for “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” took roughly four hours, though the title’s writer, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, later indicated the work spanned about eight hours, Polygon reported.
Despite receiving a nomination for Best Performance at The Game Awards for his work on “Expedition 33,” Cox previously stated that he felt like a “total fraud” accepting accolades for the role, attributing the performance largely to motion-capture actor Maxence Cazorla. Cox noted at a convention appearance last year that “the performance of that character is really down to him, and my voice was just part of that process,” according to Polygon.
Speculation and Upcoming Work
Because Cox noted the Sega project does not yet carry a public title, gaming observers and social media users have floated several possibilities, including Atlus’ anticipated “Persona 6” or an entirely unannounced intellectual property, Kotaku reported. Sega has other known future releases on its upcoming calendar, such as “Stranger than Heaven,” set for release in January 2027, as well as “Total War: Warhammer 40K,” Eurogamer noted.
Cox attended New York Comic Con to promote the third season of “Daredevil: Born Again,” which is slated to debut next spring and will serve as the show’s final season. Sega has not released a formal statement regarding Cox’s casting or disclosed when the untitled video game will be announced.
