Paramount+ has picked up two additional seasons of the animated show “Avatar: Seven Havens” and ordered a brand-new spinoff following Avatar Kuruk, franchise creators announced Friday during a New York Comic Con panel at the Javits Center.
The double renewal expands “Avatar: Seven Havens” through Books 3 and 4, Variety and Deadline reported. The news arrived the same day Book 1 premiered on the streaming platform, offering an immediate vote of confidence in the latest chapter of the fantasy franchise created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino.
Multi-season expansion for ‘Seven Havens’
Prior to Friday’s announcement, the sequel project had been slated for two seasons spanning 26 episodes, according to Gizmodo. With the greenlight for two additional installments, the story centering on Avatar Pavi is guaranteed an extended run under Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios.
Konietzko and DiMartino delivered the news onstage alongside executive producer Ethan Spaulding, co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi, and cast members Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan and Major Curda. Janet Varney, who voiced the title character in “The Legend of Korra,” moderated the panel discussion.
The narrative of “Seven Havens” picks up after Korra’s era, following a young Earthbender named Pavi who discovers she inherits the Avatar mantle in a fractured civilization. Alongside her long-lost twin sister Nisha, Pavi must navigate a society that views the Avatar as a destructive force rather than a guardian. The voice cast includes Khan as Pavi, Devan as Nisha, and Curda as Jae, with supporting roles voiced by Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan, Akshay Khanna and Dee Bradley Baker.
Book 1 launched Friday with its first three episodes. Paramount+ plans to release three additional episodes every Friday through Oct. 23, before concluding the 13-episode opening season with a four-episode drop on Oct. 30, Deadline reported.
New prequel series and comic trilogy unveiled
In addition to extending “Seven Havens,” the studio announced an order for “Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos,” an animated prequel focused on the Water Tribe Avatar who lived three generations prior to Aang. Konietzko will serve as showrunner on the project, which is being produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios and Avatar Studios.
While franchise lore historically frames Kuruk as a sorrowful figure who lost his partner to Koh the Face Stealer, Konietzko told attendees the upcoming show will be formatted as an action-comedy, Gizmodo reported. Official descriptions outline a narrative following Kuruk as a rebellious teenager who travels the globe to master bending disciplines on his own terms while clashing with an aggravated teacher, raucous pirates and erratic spirits. A promotional image featuring Kuruk with his companion animal, Nikik, was revealed to the audience.
The panel also detailed a forthcoming graphic novel series titled “The Legend of Korra: The Long Game.” DiMartino is writing the three-part project, with illustrations provided by Alexandria Monik, Gizmodo reported. The comic storyline will center on Korra alongside characters Bolin, Zaheer and Tokuga.
Paramount+ has not yet set release windows for the second, third or fourth seasons of “Avatar: Seven Havens,” nor has the platform provided a premiere date for “Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos.”
