A chaotic slate of Week 7 action reshuffled the national NFL hierarchy heading into Week 8, as major upsets propelled surging franchises upward and pushed struggling squads toward critical crossroads.

The Seattle Seahawks emerged as one of the biggest risers in multiple weekly evaluations following an authoritative 17-point victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Seattle held the Chiefs to just three points, driving its record to 4-3. Quarterback Sam Darnold threw for 257 yards and a touchdown on 20-of-28 passing, while wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 150 yards and a score, Seahawks Wire reported.

Defensively, Seattle limited Kansas City’s offensive attack, with Derick Hall logging a sack, two hits on the quarterback and a tackle for loss alongside contributions from Devon Witherspoon and Nick Emmanwori. Bleacher Report analyst Gary Davenport warned against overlooking the unit, writing that “teams who underestimate the power of Seattle’s defense do so at their peril,” according to Seahawks Wire.

Cardinals tumble amid offensive struggles

While Seattle trended upward, the Arizona Cardinals tumbled down the rankings following a decisive home blowout against the Denver Broncos that dropped their record to 2-5, Sports Illustrated reported. Denver quarterback Bo Nix broke loose for a 62-yard scramble touchdown, while the Broncos defense consistently battered Cardinals starting passer Jacoby Brissett.

National analysts voiced sharp criticism over Arizona’s showing. Nick Shook observed that the offense devolved into a “chuck-and-pray offense on third down” and highlighted what he deemed an inexcusable breakdown on Nix’s long scoring run, according to Sports Illustrated. Pete Prisco similarly noted that Arizona simply lacks the talent to remain competitive on a weekly basis.

The struggles have prompted calls from commentators such as Mike Florio and Davenport to consider giving game repetitions to rookie quarterback Carson Beck. Davenport noted that Beck was selected on Day 2 of the draft following collegiate starting tenures at Georgia and Miami, warning that Arizona could slide to 3-8 or worse by late November if issues persist. Arizona also faces defensive hurdles, ranking 27th in quarterback pressure rate and 26th in quarterback hits, Chad Graff reported.

Debate at the top of the league

The latest rankings also showcased a division of opinion regarding the best team in football after previously unbeaten squads stumbled. Touchdown Wire installed the Minnesota Vikings in its top spot as the NFL’s lone remaining undefeated team following a narrow one-score victory against the Indianapolis Colts, noting that the San Francisco 49ers fell to the Atlanta Falcons and the Chiefs were routed by Seattle.

In contrast, Bears Wire elevated the Buffalo Bills to No. 1 despite Buffalo resting on a bye week. That ranking placed the Baltimore Ravens at No. 3, the Chicago Bears at No. 4, Seattle at No. 5, Kansas City at No. 6 and Minnesota down at No. 7.

At the opposite end of the standings, the Los Angeles Chargers dropped to 0-6 to sit alone as the only winless team in the league after the Miami Dolphins secured their first victory of the season, Bears Wire reported.

Upcoming matchups will test whether the newest rankings hold. Seattle prepares for a road clash against the Bears, while Arizona seeks to rebound against the Dallas Cowboys before an imposing stretch featuring the Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams and Chiefs.
