LAS VEGAS — Facing a pivotal juncture in their season, the Los Angeles Rams revived their playoff hopes Sunday with a commanding 35-21 victory against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 23 of 29 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns, cementing his place in the record books. When Stafford found wide receiver Puka Nacua for a score in the second quarter, he passed Roman Gabriel to become the Rams’ all-time leader in touchdown passes, according to Sports Illustrated. Gabriel threw 154 touchdown passes over 130 contests in 11 seasons with the club, while Stafford broke the mark in just 63 games over six seasons, becoming the only quarterback to lead two different franchises in touchdown passes.

Dominant Ground Attack Takes Control

Entering the matchup with a 2-4 record and having lost three straight games since Week 4, Los Angeles relied heavily on a physical rushing game. Running backs Blake Corum and Kyren Williams both produced more than 100 all-purpose yards and averaged better than five yards per attempt, LA Sports Report noted.

Corum led the team on the ground with 17 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown, while Williams added a 17-yard score. Together, the duo combined for 192 yards and two scores on 33 carries, marking the first time this season the Rams finished with more rushing plays than passing attempts, Sports Illustrated reported. The New York Post reported the team finished with 199 total rushing yards on 38 attempts against a Las Vegas defense that struggled to hold the line of scrimmage.

Tight end Davis Allen played a key role early, hauling in two short touchdown receptions from Stafford to help Los Angeles establish control. Nacua, who played despite entering the weekend questionable because of a calf injury, caught eight passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Defense Stands Tall Against Late Push

The Rams built a commanding first-half cushion, scoring on four straight trips into the red zone. The reports offered slightly different halftime scores, with Sports Illustrated noting a 28-3 advantage while the New York Post described a 28-6 score.

The defense held firm despite the absence of multiple key contributors, including Poona Ford, Kobie Turner, Trent McDuffie, and Myles Garrett, according to SB Nation. Las Vegas quarterback Kirk Cousins attempted to mount a fourth-quarter rally, tossing touchdown passes to Tre Tucker and Ashton Jeanty to trim the deficit to 28-18. However, the Rams halted a two-point conversion attempt and responded with an authoritative 12-play drive capped by Corum’s four-yard touchdown run to seal the win.

Looking Ahead in the NFC West

The victory improved the Rams to 3-4 and elevated them into third place in the NFC West ahead of the Arizona Cardinals, LA Sports Report reported. Los Angeles also shaved a game off the San Francisco 49ers’ division lead after the 6-1 49ers lost Sunday to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Rams return home to SoFi Stadium next Sunday afternoon to face the Los Angeles Chargers, who enter the matchup at 0-6.
