Google signaled Friday that it is preparing to introduce its next fitness tracker, the Fitbit Edge, on Monday, Oct. 12, following a series of hardware leaks that revealed the gadget’s specifications and design.

The company posted an image on the social platform X showing what looks like the profile of the upcoming wearable, alongside the phrase, “Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26,” The Verge reported. The teaser aligns with expectations that the tech giant plans to expand its wearable portfolio ahead of the holiday shopping season.

Reported hardware and health sensors

Leaked details gathered in recent weeks by publications including Dealabs and Android Headlines suggest the Fitbit Edge is built around a 1.34-inch always-on OLED touchscreen, The Verge reported. The display is said to have an oval shape designed to show incoming alerts, basic statistics and daily metrics without adopting the bulkier form factor of a traditional smartwatch.

According to The Verge, the tracker is expected to incorporate several sensors, including:

  • Built-in GPS for mapping outdoor workouts
  • Optical monitors to measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation
  • Electrical sensors capable of recording electrocardiograms
  • An altimeter, a barometer, an accelerometer and a gyroscope

Dealabs also reported that the device will include functionality to alert wearers to potential signs of atrial fibrillation and irregular heart rhythms, according to The Verge.

Seven-day battery life and smartphone compatibility

The device is reportedly positioned as a middle option in Google’s wearable catalog, sitting between the screen-free, $99 Fitbit Air and the more premium Pixel Watch 5, which starts at $400, 9to5Google reported. Unlike the minimalist Fitbit Air, the Edge will provide a screen for viewing the time, incoming calls and app alerts from services such as Google Maps and YouTube Music, according to Android Police.

A report from Dealabs detailed by 9to5Google indicated that the Fitbit Edge will feature a user-replaceable lithium-ion battery engineered to last up to seven days on a single charge. If confirmed, a replaceable cell would represent an uncommon design choice for modern consumer trackers, addressing long-standing consumer frustration regarding depleted batteries that cannot be serviced.

The wearable is also expected to offer integration with Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence technology and support some form of Google Play functionality, 9to5Google reported. Furthermore, reports indicate that the device will work with both Android phones and Apple iPhones, maintaining the broad operating-system compatibility found in the Fitbit Air but absent from the Pixel Watch line.

Expected pricing and upcoming release

Leaked pricing information published by Dealabs puts the Fitbit Edge at 179 euros in continental Europe and 159 pounds in the United Kingdom, 9to5Google reported. Those figures suggest the gadget will likely retail for approximately $180 in the United States, placing it in a similar tier to previous models such as the Fitbit Charge 6.

Google has not publicly confirmed the specifications, international release schedules or final retail pricing ahead of Monday’s expected unveiling. Full details on availability and software capabilities are expected once the company formally introduces the device.
