Kim Kardashian is opening up about the years before her romance with Lewis Hamilton. Just don’t ask her about Hamilton.
In a Sunday Times Style magazine interview released this weekend, the 45-year-old star of “The Kardashians” looked back on the long stretch she spent on her own after her marriage to Kanye West ended, and said the time alone “felt great.”
“I was really single for five years,” the reality star said. She said the time let her “focus on my kids and projects that I really wanted to be involved with.”
‘I wanted to completely heal’
Kardashian filed for divorce from West in 2021, and the split was finalized in 2022. She dated comedian Pete Davidson for about nine months before they broke up in August 2022, but she said she did not feel pressure to find someone new.
“I really felt no rush,” she said. “I felt like I needed my time. I wanted to completely heal and just work on myself. I wasn’t ready to open up. I really wasn’t even thinking about it. The universe works in your favor when you just allow it to.”
Kardashian and Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, were first linked in February after they were seen together in Paris. Since then, People reported, they have vacationed in Tokyo with her four children and gone bike riding in London, and she cheered him on at the Monaco Grand Prix. Their latest public outing was the Sept. 19 opening-night gala for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles.
Keeping Hamilton off the record
Kardashian has shared glimpses of the romance in public, but she has not talked about it in detail. That didn’t change in this interview. When the magazine asked about Hamilton, 41, she politely passed: “In the most respectful way, I’d probably rather not.”
E! News noted that Davidson recently reflected on their relationship in a September interview with Variety. “We’re cool,” he said. “I have a lot of love for her, and I knew what I was getting into.”
Holding North back
Kardashian also spoke about raising her children in the spotlight. She and West share four children: Psalm, 7, Chicago, 8, Saint, 10, and North, 13.
“I do worry about it. Each kid does what they’re comfortable with,” she said, according to E! News. Her younger children are around when she films, she said, but “they don’t really do storylines.”
North is a different story. “North loves it a little bit more than the rest,” Kardashian said. “I hold her back. All she wants to do is forward-facing projects.”
The teen released her debut EP in May and headlined her first concert at The Vic Theatre in Chicago last month, with her mom in the audience. Kardashian said music is “something that her dad and I have better communication about,” and that the two make sure “she’s in projects that we both approve.”
What’s next
Kardashian did not say whether she plans to discuss the relationship publicly in the future. For now, she and Hamilton are letting their joint appearances do the talking.
Hamilton’s Formula 1 season runs into December and ends with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Dec. 6. Kardashian, meanwhile, continues to balance her family, her Hulu reality series and her shapewear brand, SKIMS.
