Fantasy football managers are entering a challenging Week 6 slate, navigating bye weeks for the Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings alongside pivotal matchup trends across the league.

Quarterback matchups favor Prescott over Hurts

One of the week’s most debated decisions sits under center, where Sports Illustrated analyzed whether to start Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott against the Green Bay Packers or Philadelphia Eagles signal-caller Jalen Hurts against the Carolina Panthers. Despite Philadelphia facing a Carolina defense ranked 21st in dropback success rate, Sports Illustrated recommended Prescott. Hurts posted 21.4 fantasy points per game over the first two weeks to rank ninth, but plunged to 27th at 13.4 points per contest across the subsequent three weeks. Hurts also carries the third-lowest adjusted completion rate at 68.9 percent and the fifth-lowest yards per attempt among qualifying passers, according to analytics cited by the outlet.

Prescott, meanwhile, ranks 10th with 19.4 fantasy points per game entering the week and sits fifth in adjusted expected points added per play, Sports Illustrated reported. With wide receiver CeeDee Lamb logging full practice participation on Wednesday after a quad issue, and the Cowboys throwing at the eighth-highest neutral pass rate in football, analysts see Prescott offering a higher ceiling than Hurts on Sunday night.

The Sporting News also highlighted Prescott and Green Bay’s Jordan Love as strong starts in their head-to-head clash, along with Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins against the Buffalo Bills, while advising managers to bench Arizona’s Jacoby Brissett and Carolina’s Bryce Young.

Backfield decisions divide fantasy analysts

At running back, analysts voiced contrasting views on Los Angeles Chargers rookie Omarion Hampton. Bleacher Report recommended benching Hampton against a rested Kansas City Chiefs defense, noting that new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel has distributed touches to other rushers while Hampton has reached double-digit fantasy points only twice this season. In contrast, The Sporting News listed Hampton among its top starting running backs for Week 6.

Dallas running back Javonte Williams drew broad support as a recommended starter against Green Bay. Bleacher Report noted the Packers have surrendered the third-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this year, making Williams a focal point to control time of possession. Green Bay’s MarShawn Lloyd and Pittsburgh’s Jaylen Warren also earned strong starting grades across multiple outlets.

Flex plays and targets to target or bench

With four rosters on bye, managers are digging deeper into the flex pool. Yahoo Sports analyst Joel Smyth highlighted Carolina slot receiver Jalen Coker as an ideal play against Philadelphia. The Eagles lead the league in coverage against perimeter receivers but rank 32nd against the slot, where Coker runs nearly half of his routes. Coker recorded at least eight catches in his previous three healthy outings before a timely bye week, Yahoo Sports noted.

Smyth also recommended New York Jets running back Braelon Allen, who logged 28 opportunities last game, and Cleveland Browns wideout Denzel Boston, who ranks 10th in air yards and offers significant red-zone upside. Conversely, Smyth cautioned against starting Chicago Bears receiver Rome Odunze, pointing to quarterback Caleb Williams’ past struggles under pressure against an Atlanta Falcons defense that leads the league in pressure rate. That view diverges from The Sporting News, which rated Odunze as a top-20 wide receiver and an attractive daily fantasy play for Williams’ return.

What happens next hinges on Friday injury reports, where the status of Philadelphia running back Saquon Barkley and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will alter lineup equations ahead of kickoff.
