A physical confrontation erupted on the field at SoFi Stadium on Monday night when Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Alaric Jackson punched Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb in the face following an overtime game in Inglewood, California.

Video broadcast on ESPN showed the postgame clash occurring near midfield by the Rams logo as players from both teams gathered to talk and exchange jerseys. According to Yahoo Sports, Chubb began walking away before Jackson pursued him, confronted the defender and delivered a right-handed punch directly to Chubb’s face, knocking his hat onto the turf. Other players and team staff quickly intervened to separate the two men before further fighting could take place.

Heated postgame confrontation

Chubb addressed the confrontation shortly after the game in comments to the California Post.

“It was a close game,” Chubb said. “And, you know, they always catch the second guy, so I let him swing and my teammates held me back and I just chilled.”

The specific remarks that provoked the dispute remain unknown, according to reports from The Sporting News and HITC. Jackson, a 6-foot-7, 338-pound offensive lineman out of Iowa, played opposite Chubb throughout the game while protecting quarterback Matthew Stafford’s blind side across 54 pass attempts.

Jackson is in his sixth season with Los Angeles and in the second year of a three-year, $56.3 million contract. Chubb, who recorded two tackles in the contest, joined Buffalo in March on a three-year free-agent deal. The Sporting News noted that Jackson was charged with felony domestic violence following an arrest in June, but he has started every game for Los Angeles this season.

Dramatic finish at SoFi Stadium

The postgame clash capped a wild contest in which the Bills secured a 37-34 overtime victory, pushing Buffalo’s record to 4-1 while dropping the Rams to 2-3. The matchup featured an offensive shootout down the stretch, highlighted by Stafford passing for 383 yards and three touchdowns, including 138 yards to receiver Puka Nacua.

Buffalo answered with quarterback Josh Allen rushing for 121 yards and a touchdown against the Rams’ defense. In overtime, Los Angeles kicker Harrison Mevis had a field-goal attempt blocked. Buffalo then capitalized to win the game on a field goal, reported by HITC as a kick converted by Tyler Bass. ClutchPoints reported that Rams coach Sean McVay said he was “pissed” following the heartbreaking loss, which drew criticism toward Los Angeles’ offensive line and coaching decisions.

Potential discipline and next steps

Because the altercation was captured on video and aired during national postgame coverage, the NFL is expected to review the incident under league conduct policies. Punishments could potentially include substantial fines or a multi-game suspension for Jackson.

Any discipline against Jackson would leave a significant hole on the Rams’ offensive line as the team prepares to host the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 18. Neither the NFL nor the Rams have officially announced disciplinary measures or commented on the pending investigation.
