SEATTLE — Amazon announced Tuesday that it will recruit more than 300,000 seasonal, part-time and full-time workers across the United States ahead of the busy holiday shopping season.

The hiring surge marks the company’s first expansion of holiday recruitment in three years, according to Reuters, and represents a 20 percent boost compared to the same period last year, CBS News reported. The operational buildup arrives as broader holiday spending across the nation is expected to exceed $1 trillion for the first time, according to forecasts from the National Retail Federation.

Pay rates and regional openings

Amazon stated that job listings will appear on a weekly basis from October through December across its domestic fulfillment network. Seasonal employees will earn an average of $20 per hour. Full-time operations roles maintain a starting baseline of $20 an hour, with average hourly wages reaching nearly $24, Fox Business reported. When including employer benefits, average total compensation for full-time warehouse and delivery staff exceeds $32 per hour, according to the retailer.

The positions are spread throughout regional logistics hubs. In Texas, the company is seeking to fill 26,500 roles, including more than 6,000 jobs in the Greater Houston area, Click2Houston reported. In Washington state, Amazon aims to bring on roughly 7,000 workers, with about 4,500 based across the Seattle, Tacoma and Bellevue area, KOMO reported.

Wages fluctuate depending on location and equipment requirements. According to job snapshots reported by CBS News, postings range from $20.25 to $22.75 an hour for robotics warehouse workers in Omaha, Nebraska, to as much as $24.50 per hour for heavy equipment operators in Huntley, Illinois. Certain locker retail roles in Jackson, Wyoming, offer hourly pay up to $22 alongside signing bonuses reaching $3,000.

Healthcare expansion for temporary staff

Alongside the staffing targets, Amazon revealed a major expansion to its benefits package. Beginning Jan. 1, 2027, seasonal personnel working at least 30 hours per week will qualify for company-sponsored medical coverage, an option previously reserved for regular full-time workers, Click2Houston reported.

Under the upcoming program, qualifying medical plans will start at $5 per week with $5 copays, the company said. Workers hired on or after the start of 2027 will gain coverage on their first day on the job, while seasonal employees hired earlier who meet the hourly thresholds will receive coverage on Jan. 1.

“These investments reflect our continued commitment to making Amazon a place where people can earn, learn, and create opportunities for themselves and their families,” the company said in a statement reported by Fox Business.

The recruitment drive follows an earlier announcement in September detailing an investment of more than $1.5 billion into operational wages. Amazon noted that many seasonal hires will have opportunities to shift into permanent full-time roles as the season concludes, though it remains to be seen how quickly the company can fill the positions amid a competitive year-end labor market.
